What makes Timber Feeling furniture different from mass-produced furniture?

We handcraft reclaimed timber furniture in Melbourne using carefully selected Australian hardwood so each piece is built for daily life and genuinely one-of-a-kind.
• Natural grain, colour variation, and character
• Solid timber construction designed to last

What types of timber do you use, and where is it sourced from?

We primarily work with reclaimed Australian hardwood sourced from structural and architectural salvage across Australia.
• Each piece has a distinct tone, grain, and hardness
• We select timber based on the look you want (clean vs character-rich)
• We’ll guide you on the best species for your usage and style

Are your pieces all made from recycled (reclaimed) timber?

Most of our work uses reclaimed timber, it’s central to what we do though some designs may use sustainably sourced new Australian hardwood for specific structural needs.
• Reclaimed timber is used wherever practical and suitable
• New timber may be used selectively (e.g., certain frames/structural elements or on customer's demand)

Will my piece look exactly like the photos online?

Your piece will match the design, proportions, and finish level you choose, but the grain pattern and character will be unique because reclaimed timber is never identical.
• Same style and finish direction, unique timber “fingerprint”
• Option to request a cleaner look or more character
• We can share timber/finish references during your build

Is the timber sealed to protect against stains and spills?

Yes, every piece receives a durable finish that helps protect against everyday spills and wear while keeping the timber’s natural texture and warmth.
• Finish choice depends on how you’ll use the piece (home vs commercial)
• We’ll recommend the most practical option for your lifestyle
• Care guidance provided to keep it looking its best

Are your finishes food-safe for dining tables and kitchen tops?

Yes, finishes used on dining surfaces and kitchen tops are selected to be appropriate for food areas once fully cured.
• Suitable for everyday use when used as intended
• We’ll advise on aftercare for best performance
• For high-use areas, we’ll recommend the most durable option

Do you offer different stain colours or finishes?

Yes, we offer a range of tones and finish styles to suit different interiors, from natural/light looks to deeper, richer finishes.
• Guidance based on your floors, lighting, and existing furniture
• Reference photos welcome (we’ll try to match closely)
• Samples can be arranged where practical

Yes, Timber Feeling designs and builds custom reclaimed timber furniture in Melbourne, made to your exact measurements and style preferences.
• Dining tables, benches, living pieces, bedroom furniture, kitchen tops, doors, and more
• Designed around your space, access, and how you live
• Clear guidance on proportions, finishes, and long-term durability

Yes, send your inspiration and we’ll design a piece that captures the look while meeting your practical requirements.
• We translate style cues into a buildable, durable design
• Options for thickness, edge detail, base style, and finish
• We’ll guide you on what works best for daily use

Can you create personalised pieces using inlays, footprints/handprints, or timber from a loved one?

Yes, where suitable, we can create personalised reclaimed timber furniture in Melbourne by incorporating meaningful elements such as inlays, a child’s or person’s footprint or handprint, pet pawprint or customer-supplied timber/keepsake material from a family member.
• Inlays: small keepsakes (e.g., a badge, token, or meaningful object) can sometimes be inlaid and sealed flush for a clean finish
• Footprints/handprints: we can incorporate a footprint/handprint as a subtle feature (placement and finish options depend on the surface and intended use)
• Customer timber or sentimental material: if you have timber from a loved one’s project, a family home, or something important to you, we can assess it and advise if it’s suitable for furniture use
• We’ll confirm feasibility based on size, condition, moisture/stability, and finish compatibility, so the result looks beautiful and lasts long-term

Next step: Share a photo of the item/material, the piece you want (table/bench/console/etc.), and where you’d like the personal detail included, we’ll recommend the best approach and provide a quote.

What information do I need to provide for a custom quote?

A few basics help us quote accurately: the item type, size (or seating capacity), preferred look/finish direction, and any inspiration photos.
• Room measurements and access notes (stairs/lift) are helpful
• Tell us your timeline if you have one

Can you match an existing piece of furniture I already own?

We can usually match the overall tone and finish direction closely, but exact grain matching isn’t possible with natural reclaimed timber.
• Best results with reference photos and/or samples
• We aim for a complementary, cohesive look
• We’ll recommend the right species/finish to suit your space

What does “recycled” or “reclaimed” timber actually mean?

Reclaimed timber is wood salvaged from old structures—buildings, bridges, railway lines, and other sources, given a second life as furniture.
• Kept out of landfill and turned into something beautiful and functional
• It’s sustainability you can see and touch

Why choose recycled timber instead of new timber?

Beyond the environmental benefits, reclaimed hardwoods offer qualities new timber can’t replicate.
• Decades of natural drying = more stable and durable
• Unique patina, grain depth, and character marks that tell a story
